Kaupthing Winding-up Committee appointed
In accordance with a request from Kaupthing Bank's Resolution Committee, the District Court of Reykjavik has appointed a Winding-up Committee for Kaupthing Bank in accordance with the recent amendments to the Act on Financial Undertakings. Kaupthing Bank's Winding-up Committee comprises Olafur Gardarsson, attorney to the Supreme Court, who is the Bank's Moratorium Supervisor, David B. Gislason, attorney to the District Court, and Feldis L. Oskarsdottir, attorney to the District Court.
Steinar Thor Gudgeirsson, chairman of Kaupthing Bank's Resolution Committee: "By appointing a Winding-up Committee the formal process of filing claims can begin, while Kaupthing's Resolution Committee will continue to perform its role of safeguarding the Bank's assets in order to ensure that as much as possible is received for claims. The appointment of the Winding-up Committee does not alter the fact that the Bank can try to reach composition with creditors once the deadline for filing claims has passed."
The Winding-up Committee will begin work immediately. It is authorised to determine the length of the deadline for filing claims, which may be from two to six months. The first task of the Winding-up Committee will be to provide information on the process of filing claims and to announce when creditors will be able to file claims against Kaupthing Bank. Further information on the process of filing claims will be advertised and announced on the Bank's website, www.kaupthing.com. The Winding-up Committee will receive, register and make decisions on claims. Any disputes over claims will, however, be referred to a court of law.
