Principal Investments
Kaupthing has a long heritage of investing its balance sheet to support the growth aspirations of entrepreneurs.
From its roots in supporting the growth of the bank's clients, this area has been greatly extended to encompass the provision of creative, tailored private equity solutions through both traditional and integrated finance structures.
Throughout the investment process, Kaupthing's focus is on taking an entrepreneurial approach to opportunities, unencumbered by strict investment parameters. Our success has been driven by building strong, long-term relationships with the companies in which we invest and working towards shared strategic goals. We provide a deliverable, supportive and knowledgeable financial partner to management teams, adding value by leveraging the relationships within our existing portfolio companies and by opening doors to new avenues for growth.
The Principal Investments (KCP) team is responsible for the origination, execution and portfolio management of private equity investments within the Bank. The team is responsible for the £529 million Kaupthing Capital Partners II Fund, raised in 2007 from a combination of institutional investors, private clients and the Bank as a £200 million cornerstone investor. New equity investments are made directly by the fund, with larger transactions supported by equity from co-investors.
The team is focused on transactions with an enterprise value of between £100 million and £1 billion, where, alongside the Bank's Acquisition & Leveraged Finance team, the full debt and equity requirement can be underwritten. In addition, they may participate in larger transactions with its co-investment partners.
Kaupthing invests across all sectors, with a proactive focus on consumer markets (retail, brands, leisure, food), healthcare, energy, media and business services. Within these sectors, we look to support scaleable businesses in markets with sustainable growth drivers and strong market positions. Our investment approach favours later stage, cash generative businesses, supporting management teams through growth or buyout capital.
